  • Program overview

Our Generalist Program is designed to give you a broad overview of our Institutional Bank before you decide which area you'd like to specialise in. Our program has three streams to choose from:

    1. Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB)
    2. Debt Capital Markets (DCM) and Hastings Funds Management (Hastings)
    3. Equities

Graduates who participate in the first or second stream will chose to do 2 rotations in one stream, and 1 in the other, i.e. 2 rotations in CIB and 1 in Debt Products and Hastings. (NB - CIB, Debt Products and Hastings are three different departments of WIB, but with reference to the Generalist Program, Debt Products and Hastings have been grouped together as one stream). Graduates who participate in the Equities stream will do all three rotations in Equity related areas.

    • Participate in the delivery of appropriate WIB products into the retail investor marketplace
    • Gain an understanding of the portfolio construction process for individually and separately managed accounts
  • Rotation

A rotation is the time you'll spend in any one team or department. The WIB Generalist Program consists of three rotations of four months each spanning a 12 month period. You will spend two rotations in either the CIB or DCM/Hastings stream, and one rotation in the other. For example, if you join as part of the CIB stream you'll spend two of your three rotations in CIB and one rotation within DCM/Hastings stream. However if you join as part of the equities stream, you will complete all three rotations in various parts of Equities.

During your program there will be two things that determine your rotation:

    1. The opportunities that arise in each business unit
    2. And you

It's true that you need to be in the right place at the right time, but it is also true that you can control your own destiny. The program will provide you with a number of options when you move into a permanent role at the end of 12 months. Set your goals and work towards them.

  • Rewards/Benefits

You'll enjoy generous staff benefits including financial product discounts, health and lifestyle benefits, and a competitive salary. The majority of our roles are located in Sydney, however if you are not living in Sydney we'll help you move. We also have a small number of opportunities within our Melbourne office for your second and third rotations, however, the first rotation will always be in Sydney.
