Important changes to the way you see ATM fees

We’d like to bring to your attention some important changes developed by the industry, together with the Reserve Bank of Australia, to give cardholders more choice and transparency. From 3 March 2009, when you use an ATM not branded by your bank, you’ll see the ATM charges displayed on screen before you make a transaction. So you’ll know what you’ll be charged by that institution if you decide to proceed.

Follow these handy tips to reduce your ATM fees:
1. Try to use ATMs owned by your bank

To minimise your ATM fees, use Westpac ATMs or one of the additional 1,100 St George/BankSA ATMs. Check your account to see your monthly fee-free allowance because some Westpac accounts offer you unlimited transactions at Westpac, St George and BankSA branded ATMs.

If you use ATMs frequently and incur excess fees, visit your local branch or talk to us on 132 032 about the best account for your needs.

2. Bank online and over the phone

Most Westpac accounts offer you unlimited fee-free Internet Banking and Telephone Banking. Where possible, make your payments online or over the phone to help limit your cash withdrawals.

3. Get cash out when you make purchases

If you’re making an EFTPOS purchase, withdraw money at the same time to avoid paying ATM-related fees.
